TREE CHOLLA

Full sun. An evergreen, woody-trunked tree cactus with thick spiny stems and abundant magenta-colored flowers in late spring and sometimes late summer; yellow fruit follow in winter. A strong focal point for any cactus garden. It makes a very unusual small tree, though maintaining it as such requires some horticultural effort; give it excellent drainage and plenty of room. Fast growing. Tree cholla can be found at nurseries, but is also common as a pass-along plant as it is very easy to grow. If cuttings are used, allow them to callus over before re-planting.
